Nightmare Career?

Take this test!

"Would you like fries with that?" Getting ready for an eight-hour shift where you sweat over a grill, flip burgers, and go through the all the motions on auto-pilot is your sure path to existential angst — not career fulfillment. With your massive mental muscle, you pride yourself on always having something to say and important thoughts to contribute. Problem solving, strategizing, and critical thinking are where you excel, and spending your days increasing your customers' waists just wouldn't fit the bill.

Always using your head, there's no doubt you get a reputation for being the smartest kid on the block no matter where you work. So it's no wonder that for someone with your intellectual curiosity, the worst jobs are those that don't exercise your mind. But hey, if you worked really hard, you might get promoted to drive-thru...

Fiber

Verizon was here today to upgrade our service to the fiber network. They were here for a few hours setting everything up. They cleaned up the mess where the old phone connection was. I may still end up putting a 66 block there. I ended up explaining to them about switches and wireless networks and how to get two routes to broadcast on the same ssid. They were rather interested in all this. I guess they are more phone guys rather than network techs.

Home Work - Play Room

Complete, well almost. I still have to finish one more thing of shelves and get the boxes for it.

Home Work - Play Room - Part 3

It's getting there. Lisa primed and started painting while I was at work. That wall turned out ok. There are spots that looked like it could have been sanded another time before it was painted. Yes, it is blue. So at this point it matches the house. Once this room is done, the plan is to start on removing the blue from the rest of the house, leaving this room as one of the only areas with blue.

Home Work - Play Room - Part 2

Have a wall now. I had to borrow Bernie's hammer drill to get the studs up. I got that on Friday and they were all attached to the wall that day. I decided that I needed dad to help hang the drywall. It can be done with just one person but it is a lot easier with two. He came over yesterday afternoon and we were able to get it all up.

Home Work - Play room - day 4

The idea of this project was simple. Lisa wanted the texture removed from the walls and it repainted and I was going to build bookcases and shelves for the one wall. Monday we figure out how to remove the texture and while I was at work on Tuesday Lisa continued to work on it. At one point I get a call and Lisa says that the wall fell apart. I get home and they textured over paneling on one of the walls and the paneling came down. The wall uder that was in sad shape, and Bernie told me to take it back to the "studs," and redo the wall. While pulling off the "studs" they start falling apart. They are not really studs, they were 1x2's attached to block. At this point most of the wall is off and half of the studs are. I should be able to finish taking those down and have the new 1x2's and hopefully the drywall up tonoght. I hope we will be able to get the walls done and painted this week.

The 100th Post

It took two years, but with this post , I am now in the triple digits. The original post was on 17 January 2006. That is close to a one a week average.

What Does Your Pizza Say About You?

What Your Pizza Reveals
Your appetite is pretty average. You don't go overboard - but you don't deprive yourself either.

You aren't particularly picky about pizza. It's so good... how could you be? You fit in best in the Western part of the US.

You like food that's traditional and well crafted. You aren't impressed with "gourmet" foods.

You are dependable, loyal, and conservative with your choices.

You are unadventurous and boring. You should consider staying home when taking a vacation.

The stereotype that best fits you is geek. You're the type most likely to order pizza to avoid leaving your computer.

Home Work - Laundry Room

Lisa wanted a counter to fold laundry on in the basement. I took the shelf out of the game room where I had removed the closet wall and used that to create the counter. I had some wood left over that used to make another little shelf above the other and set up a radio on the other side of the wall with the speakers on the shelf. Then I took the bar that was in that closet and hung it by the drying machine for her. While I was doing things in the basement, I replace the tube light that was in the hall down there (there were three working ones in the big room and so I pulled one of those down and moved it over). Having the light there makes a big difference.

Dinner - Beef Roast

Lisa Cooked yesterday. She was so excited to get to use the slow cooker. She invited mom and dad over to join us for it. It turned out really good.
